‘Walapatala’ screenplay released
The screenplay of Vijitha Gunaratne's maiden film ‘Walapatala’ (Penumbra) is to be released at the opening screening on June 8.
An award winning playwright of 1970s and 1980s, Gunaratne's cinematic creation revolves around a radical political movement of youth spreads through the village and a politician who senses threats against his political career.
This is the first time that a screenplay of a film is released at the opening day of a film in Sri Lanka and it includes two comprehensive articles written about the film by Dr. Patrick Ratnayake and Ajith Galappaththi.
"To have a better cinema there should be a better cinema literature. When both these areas are developed only we can have a developed cinema culture," said director Gunaratne speaking about his endeavour.
'Walapatala' screenplay is published by Godage publication and it will be available at a reduced price on the opening day from the film theatres where the film is released.
