Maximum security for four suspects

The Kandy Chief Magistrate Sumudu Premachandra has directed the Bogambara Prison authorities to ensure maximum security for four suspects being held in connection with an alleged plot to kill Mohammed Niyas, alias Potta Naufer, at Welikada Prison. The maximum security order extends to travel arrangements for the four suspects when they are brought to Colombo to appear in court.

Appearing in court last week in connection with the case were Hewathanthrige Sisira Kumar, alias Podi Wijeya, of Kollanawa; Lahinduprige Nimal, alias Chutie, of Colombo 14; and Phillpu Mandalliyage Nalaka Christhantha Kumar Thissera of Kalutara. The fourth suspect Jayantha Aluvihare was not present in court. Although the case was filed by the Borella Police, the suspects are being held at the Bogambara Prison in Kandy for security reasons.

The magistrate has also ordered medical treatment for one of the suspects.
