Since their first appearance, The FuzMechanX hav carved out a niche for themselves in Sri Lanka's developing Rock Music scene. Ravin (Vocals and Lead Guitar), and childhood friends Naren (Rhythm Guitar) and Suren (Bass), who shared the same passion and taste in music, used their spare time to jam. They formed a band known as Fire Garden in early 2005. The need for a more original band name prompted the change to The FuzMechanX.
After playing a few small gigs, they realized the need to come up with a sound of their own. Inspired by guitar legend Steve Vai, they came up with their first ever instrumental "Break the Wall," which was recorded at Ravin's home studio. The band has taken on a unique blend of Progressive Hard Rock, Jazz and blues, resulting in their wide range of music tastes.
They took part in TNL Onstage (band competition) in 2006, with the intention of gaining exposure and experience, and were awarded the "Best Band" title. The release of their second original "Set Me Free" was a major success as it went on to be a radio hit, which encouraged them to create additional material for a future album.
At the present, The FMX has promised to launch one of their biggest concerts, known as "Back Again," which will take place on August 8, 2008 at the British School Auditorium. Tickets are out for purchase at the commons, Bay Leaf and at Vibrations (Town Hall) all priced at Rs 300/-. The purpose of this event will be to raise funds for their album, which is to be released soon. Part of the profits will also be shared with a designated charity Organization. The event also promises to give out a positive message, which is to "Live larger than life."
Over the years the FuzMechanX have been through their ups and downs, and seen bands come up and fall at once. According to Ravin, leader of the band, "It's a shame that Rock bands of Sri Lanka haven't been given the needed recognition and approval they need resulting in unfortunate and inevitable break ups, but I know for certain that "The FuzMechanX" will not die off that easy. We are here to stay, but that's only by the grace of our God." |
