An entertaining and amusing 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid', an Oscar wining movie will be screened at 6.00 pm on Tuesday August 5, at the American Centre, Colombo-3.
Starting from 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid' the weekly film screening at the American centre screens film focusing on the theme of 'western' throughout the month of August.
The film starring Paul Newman, Robert Redford, Katharine Ross and Strother Martin in the main roles is a likeably entertaining, charming and amusing comedy/drama of the friendship and camaraderie shared between the two handsome and humorous buddy leads - legendary, turn-of-the-century Western outlaws and their "Hole in the Wall" gang. Historical antecedents for the two daring "Robin Hood" outlaws actually existed, two notorious figures who were sadly anachronistic for their turn-of-the-century times:
Directed by George Roy Hill this 1969 movie revolves around Butch and Sundance, the two leaders of the Hole-in-the-Wall Gang. Butch is all ideas, Sundance is all action and skill. The west is becoming civilized and when Butch and Sundance rob a train once too often, a special posse begins trailing them no matter where they run. Over rock, through towns, across rivers, the group is always just behind them. When they finally escape through sheer luck, Butch has another idea, "Let's go to Bolivia".
The film won Best Cinematography, Best Music, Original Score for a Motion Picture, Best Music, Original Song and Best Writing, Story and Screenplay at the 1970 Academy Award in addition to 17 other awards and 11 nominations at International Film Festivals.
