I was so happy and proud as a Sri Lankan to read your editorial on Sunday July 27 on Susantha/PBJ.
Firstly it was very well written, secondly you had so much nerve and courage to take on two powerful individuals who have on all accounts acted to benefit one another. In the US a scandal like this would have led to the resignation of both people and the board.
But in Sri Lanka we have descended to such disgraceful levels nobody cares anymore. I did read the JKH annual report and I note that they have two prominent lawyers on the board - Mr. Franklyn Amerasinghe and Mrs. S Thiruchelvam.
Both have gone public as strong advocates of good governance. What is their take on this shady and disgraceful deal? What is Mr M Mushin, an ex World Bank Sector head doing about this? The two key executive directors Susantha Ratnayake and Ajit Gunawardane also need to go public with their version. It is a well known fact that Ajit Gunawardane sat in many powerful committees during the UNP tenure.
What is his role in securing this deal for the company? All this needs to be investigated by the CID and SEC.
This should be published in the public interest, because other than your newspaper nobody seems to be fighting for good governance in the private sector.
