Father and son or daughter musicians are quite popular now days in the music scene in Sri Lanka. But the third generation of musicians is difficult to find and that is what Denipitiya family is proud of.

Twelve year old Eshan Bernard Denipitiya is the grand son of veteran Patrick Denipitiya. Eshan has won four gold medals including a special gold medal for piano accompaniment. He is the All island winner - Piano Solo , Piano Duet, All Island Winner Best Drum Solo - 12 years, won the Trophy for the Best Piano Duet and Golden Croft Trophy for the most outstanding performance - Piano (12 years and under).
Eshan's father Mahesh Denipitiya said , apart from these achievements, he has won the 'Young Musician of the Year - 2008' and was the 1st Runner - up in the Junior Category 'Young Musician of the Year - 2006'.
He has also successfully completed Grade 6 Piano (ARBRSM) and Grade 3 Singing Trinity College London. Also his daughter Dulani Nadeesha Denipitiya is winner of the Gold medal for Solo Singing and a Silver medal for piano. Also she is the all island winner - Solo Singing ( 16 years) and All island winner - Piano Solo (Set work) in 2003.
Eshan is now a student of Ruvini Hapugalle and was trained under Dharmi Mudalige. He has undergone training with Hashini Halpe.
Meanwhile veteran Patrick Denipitiya celebrates his birthday on Monday, August 11. He is now settled down in Bramton, Canada. |
