Casino rape: Kudu Nuwan on the prowl

Nearly 72 hours after the alleged rape of a female karaoke assistant at Flower Road in Kollupitiya was reported, police are still searching for the suspect wanted in connection with the crime.

According to police the suspect is alleged to have raped the young woman in a room situated on the first floor of the building. Since the alleged incident, the suspect known as “Kudu Nuwan” also allegedly featured in the Rupahavahini melee along with Minister Mervyn Silva has gone into hiding, police spokesperson SSP Ranjith Gunasekera said.

He said an all-island alert for the arrest of the wanted man had been sounded and police were hopeful the suspect would be apprehended within a day or two.The suspect who is on trial on double murder charges is known to be widely linked to the city’s underworld and has powerful political backing .

Further investigations are being conducted by the Kollupitiya police.
