Thank you for your excellent piece of reporting regarding the shocking things going on at the Uda Walawe sanctuary (I refer to the Plus cover story titled “Who Sanctioned the Rape of a Sanctuary”, by Kumudini Hettiarachchi, The Sunday Times, September 28).
Had this write-up not appeared, wildlife lovers and frequent visitors to Uda Walawe would be totally unaware of the tragic, systematic rape of our precious wildlife sanctuaries. We should be deeply grateful whenever such harebrained schemes are brought to our notice, and the sooner the better.
Your valuable Sunday newspaper should keep us readers informed of developments. We deplore the wanton destruction of our forests, and sympathise with the dedicated staff of Uda Walawe.
