I visited the Ceylon Electricity Board area office at No. 25 Council Lane, Dehiwala, on October 8 to inquire about a red notice we had received. The letter said our power supply would be disconnected if we did not pay arrears of Rs. 18,415.22. I knew there was something wrong with the bill, and I had to have it checked.
I went up to a lady at a counter, and she sent me to another lady who was sitting at a computer. This lady was kind and went out of her way to sort out my problem. I think it was past her lunch hour, but she continued to attend to my problem as if it was her own. I could not believe I was in a government department!
She traced the mistake and gave me a printout and explained that the bill should have read Rs 3,787.73. She explained that there must have been a problem with the meter reader.
We should be grateful for pleasant, dedicated and helpful public servants like these.
Thank you, Madam!
