It is a pleasure to observe the excellent work of the Katugastota traffic police, who have done a great job of easing traffic congestion at a time when commuters feared travelling into Kandy would be a nightmare.
As a regular commuter between Matale and Kandy, I would dread the long, circuitous rides to and fro. I have often wondered how many working hours I have spent on the road over the years, making those tedious Matale-Kandy-Matale trips.
The trip was going to become even more of a nightmare with the construction of the new bridge across the Mahaweli.
However, thanks to the extreme efficiency and initiative of the traffic police, traffic congestion is minimal. If there is a traffic block, it is because of errant drivers.The Katugastota traffic police should be lauded for their innovative methods, which should be adopted in other parts of the country too.
