There is strong speculation that the incumbent SLC Interim Committee led by former Sri Lanka cricket captain Arjuna Ranatunga is to be dissolved on December 10.
According to a senior SLC source, the date is already set and the green light for such a move has already come from very senior places in the government.

Ranatunga, who came into prominence after he led Sri Lanka to an unexpected 1996 World Cup victory over Australia at Lahore, was handed over the reins after a non-cricket political maneuver soon after the government budget vote in 2007. If this move comes to pass it also would be just two days after the current budget vote is over.
On January 1, 2008 Arjuna Ranatunga was appointed as the chairman of Sri Lanka Cricket replacing business tycoon Jayantha Dharmadasa. Ironically soon after taking office the outspoken member of Parliament began to fall out with his Interim Committee colleagues which gradually built up to the current impasse in the game governance. Besides, the administration Ranatunga also built up some strong differences of opinion with the current playing members especially regarding the player contracts and the signing up with the Indian Premier League Tournament.
It is also speculated that a new Interim Committee would be placed on that day probably with a person who earlier had held the same portfolio.
However Minister of Sports Gamini Lokuge denied the story and said that no such move was contemplated as yet.
Meanwhile the Taj TV deal was earlier cancelled by the minister of Sports is being studied once again by the SLC lawyers and their report on the matter is to be handed over the SLC Interim Committee tomorrow for their views.Taj TV also have made SLC understand they intend going in for arbitration if SLC makes any attempt to call for any new bids from other TV companies. |
