Feel the jungle heat at the Terrace of Mount Lavinia Hotel on December 2 with the traditional African music and songs by 'Peace'
Peace Cultural Group was formed in 2004 as a symbol and appreciation of South Africa's political past which was characterised by ample violence as a resort in cases of disagreement.
Peace Cultural Group is composed of 16 Members with representation across gender, age and language. Ten out of 16 of the group's membership hails from the country's rural underprivileged communities and the rest unemployed. The group performs across different genres of both song and dance also incorporating Opera extracts rearranged according to our time, style and history. The story behind the style the group aims to display can be read in line with its founder member and convenor Themba Mkhwani who is one musician South Africa prides of as a versatile tenor and who captures traditional music equally brilliant as he does with Opera.
This characteristic has made South African composed Opera's and Epics sound incomplete without his participation.
'After at least ten years of democracy and political tolerance in South Africa, we could confirm that South Africa is at peace and therefore decided to name our culturally diverse group as Peace which was relevantly in line with cultural tolerance our country had to carry across as an achievement' said Themba Mkhwani. |
