The battle for supremacy is hotting up as Pathbreakers season 2 -the Aspirations Conquest , Sri Lanka 's first ever English reality show nears its grand finale.
Throughout the show participants between the ages of 15 to 19 are tested with a series of questions and team challenges that compel them to put their knowledge to good use in order to survive in an extremely competitive environment where the stakes are high.
The absorbing second season with a twist is more adventurous, challenging, insightful and most importantly entertaining as each nail biting episode demonstrates how the young participants battle it out to gain their place amongst the final six.
Pathbreakers season 2 has broken new ground and entered into a whole new realm of reality TV by fusing education, high quality entertainment and realism, thereby creating a magic formula that has its audience hooked on.
"Pathbreakers season 2 is totally different. The show is more engaging, interactive and is created in a format that appeals to a mass television audience. It's a total change from last season where the contestants were undergraduates, battling out for the top spot," said Nadeen Kumarasinghe, the Marketing and Business Development Manager at Aspirations Education Ltd speaking to Education Times.
First phase
50 finalists from schools situated across Colombo were selected upon successfully completing an aptitude test and an interview.
Then began the grueling task of facing a do or die preliminary round that consisted of three stages, a captain's quiz, a team challenge, and the all important show down.
The captain's quiz was a task that tested the participants' general knowledge on a particular subject and 2 of the highest scoring participants were chosen as the captains for the day.
The 2nd stage consisting of a team challenge, where the team had to work as one unit to successfully find solutions to 3 puzzles in record time. The team challenge was mostly based on mathematical brain teasers and word puzzles.
The winning team along with the best performer of the losing team were then subjected to a weekly show down, rapid fire questions that tested their I.Q
Two of the highest scoring participants were announced as the winners of the episode and at the end of the 5th preliminary, 10 contestants were propelled to the 2nd phase of season 2.
Second phase
The second phase which is nearing its completion consists of a captain's quiz, a team challenge based on a particular theme and a show down.
Unlike the 1st phase, the second phase has no eliminations said Nadeen who added that "Throughout the second phase the contestants earn performance points and judge's points. After the completion of each task depending on the end result they accumulate points and lead the points table."
The final ten contestants are Dreno Mortier, Kushan Felix,Vinura Welgama, Clyde Rodrigo,Kishan Goonewardene,Thameena Adnan,Pamith Kodikara,Muditha Mahindaratne, Radika Shehan de Silva and Fahmy Rahman.
The winner of Pathbreakers season 2 -the Aspirations Conquest will win a full expense paid trip to Malaysia and Singapore . During this visit he or she will visit several world class universities. The first runner up will receive a cash prize of Rs 30,000 while the second runner up will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 20,000.
