‘Wild Asia’, a television programme highlighting the need to protect our fauna and flora has released itsfirst few chapters in DVD format.
Released as Volume 1 of the series, the DVD contains a number of programmes telecast every Sunday from 6.30 pm to 7 pm on Rupavahini. A production of Soul of Asia Enterprises, the fauna friendly TV programme is presented by veteran announcer and compeer Arun Dias Bandaranayake.
‘Our mission is to protect fauna and flora which is an integral part of our planet’ said programme director Padmalatha Abeysinghe. ‘We want to convey our audience that the animals around us have the same rights as human and it is our duty to protect them," Ms. Abeysinghe said.
For this we make one request, that is to protect any type of animal which lives in our surroundings.
Having produced with this noble theme, '’Wild Asia’ has been rated as one of the most popular TV programmes among its audience from children to adults.
'Wild Asia' is also the first Sri Lankan programme in its kind and the programme crew has covered a number of wild life sanctuaries around the country. "Due to the much demand of repetition programme we decided to have the programme which were telecast earlier in DVD format," she added.

The first copy of the DVD was handed over to the President Mahinda Rajapakse and the president too had been interested in the novel idea of protecting the fauna and flora around us in order to protect the animals around us, Ms. Abeysinghe said.
All proceeds collected from the sales of the DVD is directed for Wild Asia team and its works towards promoting the programme and buying.
The DVD is available at ODEL outlets and Sarasavi Bookshops around the country.
A booklet on Asian Elephants
Ranul Thantilage who is also the young creative director of 'Wild Asia TV' has written a book on the Asian elephants under the title 'Asiyanu Ali'. This handy 18-paged booklet has information on the Asian elephants, the food it takes, its calf, its activities and the countries it is inhabited.
Written in short and simple writing style the booklet has targeted the children audience and it aims to make the children aware on the importance of protecting this endangered animal.
