The financial crisis, stemming from the collapse of Golden Key Credit Card Company, and the possible consequential systemic crisis in the banking industry is negatively impacting stakeholders of banks, especially the depositors, said the former Ceylon Chamber of Commerce Chairman Chandra Jayaratne. In the current situation as well as for the future, Mr. Jayaratne is calling for the government, regulators, professionals, business, media and civil society to convene a round table for collective dialogue, debate and recommendations on risk management.
Discussions are essential on several different levels including ensuring a continuing public debate and dialogue on all critical national issues in order that the alternate views, critique and independent voice have a place in the decision making process, implementation and risk management, said Mr. Jayaratne in a statement. Collective stakeholders voices based on best advice influences decision making and implementation tracking and outcomes assessment. Mr. Jayaratne added that transparency, good governance and independence are allowed to prevail and are maintained by the stakeholders.
Moreover Mr. Jayaratne said the stakeholders engaged must have competency, capability, and the ability to think outside the box and be endowed with correct attitude and be willing to fearlessly express their independent positions and not echo what superiors wish to hear or try to meet guidelines of political reality in all suggested solutions.
