Former Sprint Queen Susanthika Jayasinghe, who last week announced her decision to retire from athletics, has reportedly turned down a request from a newly formed political party to contest in the upcoming provincial council elections on the party’s ticket.
The new party was formed by a group that had recently defected from a mainstream political party.
It is understood that Ms. Jayasinghe and several former cricketers were personally approached by the new party’s leader, a popular politician, who had asked them to consider contesting for the upcoming Western Provincial Council election. However, all former sports stars turned down the invitation. |
