Whichever program or pathway you choose, you'll learn from leading academics in their field, work alongside like-minded students, take a three-month work placement in industry, learn important workplace skills and be eligible for membership of Engineers Australia. Our programs have something for everyone. The range of flexibility and study options available at the University of South Australia particularly suit those wanting to graduate in a shorter period of time to be earning a wage sooner, or for those who wish to upgrade or add new qualifications while working.
Common first year
Engineering is changing and so are the options. Some people know straight off which way they want to head, while others need to get a feel for things before they really know. At the University of South Australia we give you that chance. In first year, all Engineering students study eight core engineering courses, which provide a practice-centred foundation to engineering that exposes students to the breadth of engineering as well as how engineering is applied in industry. Students undertake a number of hands-on engineering projects and participate in the Engineers Without Borders challenge.
Common first-year learning space
In 2009, Engineering students will enjoy their own state-of the- art studio that incorporates cutting-edge-technology workspaces mixed with casual zones. The space features designated computing, help desk, lounge and outdoor recreation areas. The technology-rich studio has been designed as a student-centred learning environment to promote creative collaboration, problem solving and independent learning among Engineering students, staff and their professional groups.
Accelerated three-year Engineering program
The University of South Australia has introduced an accelerated program of study using three study periods per year instead of two. On completion of the first-year courses, students who achieve a Credit average or better may be offered the option of completing their course requirements in as little as three years by taking courses in holiday periods instead of taking a break. This has significant advantages for students because it means that they are able to commence their professional careers a year earlier than the standard program allows.
UniSA is the only University in Adelaide and one of only a few universities in Australia to offer this option to Engineering students.
New Program choices for 2009
The University has introduced a wider choice of engineering specialisations which are more strongly aligned with industry demand, particularly in the fields of materials, mining and resources, defence, civil infrastructure, construction, environmental engineering and niche market advanced manufacturing. Engineering majors cover areas including Civil, Transport, Materials, Mechanical, Advanced Manufacturing, Mechatronic, Sustainable Systems, Nanotechnology, Electrical, Electronics and Communications, Networking and Communications.
UniSA Engineering Graduates are known for being career-ready and able to enter the workforce with the essential practical and personal skills needed to make an immediate impact.
