Ssangyong Motor Company announced on March 15, 2009, that it will start modernizing / up grading one of its assembly lines beginning of this week, in a bid to improve its overall production efficiency, according to "Yonhap news agency".
Re-modernizing process of it's assembly line at its Pyeongtaek plant about 70Km South of Seoul will take at least 3 ½ months. This modernized assembly line is to produce the all new "C200" mid-sized sports utility vehicles scheduled to hit the Korean market in the 2nd half of this year, Company officials said.
The one and only specialized SUV automaker in South Korea won court approval for "bankruptcy protection" in early February 2009 which is good news for global SYMC fanes.
During the re-modernizing, No. 1 assembly line workers will take a leave with 70% of their salary paid, said the officials.
The "C200", which debuted at the Paris Motor Show last October 2008, is considered vital to the future of SYMC, at a time where global auto industry is hit very badly due to the recession where SYMC have invested millions of $ on this cutting edge design SUV.
The "C200" will be powered with turbo intercooler diesel engine which will be more powerful than the present Rexton II and will have the highest engine power in its segment, also equipped with 6 speed T/tronic transmission along with " on the fly" 2 & 4 WD mode.
Ssangyong, a unit of China's Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp. (SAIC , VW China) was placed under court receivership on Feb. 6. Upon court receivership, SAIC lost management control of Ssangyong, but retained its 51-percent stake in the company.
The carmaker will also continue to produce its three SUV models -- Actyon, Kyron and Rexton and the Actyon Sports Double cab-- on the No. 3 assembly line of the Pyeongtaek plant in another move to restructure its production system. |
