Fans of rock band Nemesis are in for a treat on April 5 when the band performs its first official concert since winning ‘TNL Onstage 2008’, the nationwide talent competition, organised by TNL radio network.
The band’s concert titled ‘Chapter One’ will be held from 3 pm – 6 pm at ‘The KEG’ at Excel World on April 5. This concert is a way for the band to say thanks to its die hard fans who have kept faith throughout its many trials over the years.
The band also hopes that ‘Chapter One’ will be an insight to fans and newcomers as to what the band is about.
Nemesis was formed in mid 2005 and their genre of music has evolved over the years into a mix of blues, alternative rock/metal and eastern music. The band’s musical influence range from Metallica, Aerosmith, Pantera, Alterbridge, Shinedown, Zakk Wylde and Black Sabbath to Jason Becker, Steve Vai and Joe Satriani. The band does not confine its music to a particular genre. As such, neither is its fan base limited to any particular genre. The crowd expected for the concert includes a wide range of age groups from mid teens to young adults. Indeed any Sri Lankan who enjoys good music and energetic live performances, will be at home at this concert.
The audience of ‘Chapter One’ could look forward to an array of cover songs that the band has now become famous for while its newest single “Half Cocked” which has seen over 2,500 plays on the band’s MySpace page will also be released officially at the concert. The song was the brainchild of lead guitarist Tharindu Mathew.
The band which started its musical career performing at gigs hosted by Sri Lanka’s main rock music labels, has perfomed alongside the giants of Sri Lanka’s rock music. Successful as its entry into the Sri Lankan rock music scene was, the band suffered many setbacks due to the departure of three of its original members.
As daunting as the task of keeping the band together, the unwavering determination and commitment of Tharindu Mathew saw Nemesis re-emerge stronger than ever with its current line-up consisting of bassist Loshaarn Bastian, vocalist Mihindu Ariyarathna and drummer Sithija Dilshan. Two other bands, Wagon Park and Fuzz MechanX will play at the opening gig paving the way for Nemesis. Tickets for the show are to be priced at Rs.400.
