The Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) is to offer airtime to the private sector to cut down on financial losses, Corporation Chairman Hudson Samarasinghe said.
He said that initially this plan would be confined to regional stations on a one year agreement, with air time being sold for musical, educational and other commercial programmes under specified guidelines.
However, political programmes would not be entertained, he said.
Mr. Samarasinghe said this venture was mainly to increase revenue and reduce its dependency on the Treasury for finances amounting to about Rs. 250 million a year. |
