Agoal Rugby Academy is five years old

The CR/ Agoal Rugby academy celebrated its 5th Anniversary on 7th April at the CR and FC pavilion.

The academy which was started in 2004 with 20 kids has a participation of over 100 at present from around fifteen schools. They are located at the CR and FC and conduct its sessions at Longden Place on Saturday for those on the age groups of Under 10, 12, 14 and 16.

The sharpening of technical skills of young kids who enjoy rugby is now a major aspect in developing the game in most countries which have seen the contribution to New Zealand rugby from their academies. The effort of CR /Agoal through the academy is a step in the right direction.

In addition to training the boys the academy also has sessions to educate parents on the game as well as on aspects on nutrition. This year the academy also undertook a tour to Bangkok and competed in the DHL Bangkok Junior Rugby tens. Dilroy Fernando the pioneer of the academy has a number of junior school coaches and referees involved in teaching the skills and the laws of the game.
