W e went to Dehiowita on May 30, 2008, that was a Saturday. I was sad to leave my mother but I was brave. The Gold Star Cub Scouts of Trinity College assembled at the Junior School gate at
6 a.m.
Our teachers in charge Mrs. I.W. Ambanpola and Mrs. D. Dissanayake and the rest were present.
Parents of all the Cub Scouts were with heavy bags. Once everyone arrived, our Akelas took a head count. As we boarded the college bus, we sang the college song. Our headmaster
Mr. A.S. Marasinghe too joined us half way.
We saw many beautiful places. On our way we stopped for breakfast and lunch. We came at last to a rubber estate. We saw the board Dehiowita Wooden Estate. There were lots of rubber trees. We stopped at a big bungalow where
Mr. and Mrs. Ranga Alahakoon greeted us with warm smiles.
Due to rain we went one by one under an umbrella. We were placed in groups. My colour was blue. Quickly we had a change and were asked to do several activities which we enjoyed doing together. At night we had the campfire ‘Rahu Mala'.
We sang songs, acted in group dramas, even our Akela and Headmaster
presented a drama.
Then we wore pyjamas and waited for our parents' telephone calls. I was very happy when I spoke to my mother.
Next morning, we did exercises, then had our breakfast. We went around the estate. We walked through narrow roads,
passing canals. We saw beautiful trees, birds, insects and waterfalls.
We returned to the
bungalow after the walk.We had lunch and thanked the members at the bungalow.
We left Dehiowita at
3 p.m. We came back to school at 5 p.m. My mother was waiting for me along with the other parents. We had a great time. I am sure I will never forget my camp at Dehiowita, in my life.
