Dr. Dietmar Doering, Representative for Peace Village International in Sri Lanka, handed over medical equipment, drugs, wheelchairs other medical items to President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Peace Village was one of the first NGO's which responded to an urgent request of the Health Ministry and provided medical drugs and new emergency health kits, bandages, essential medical items to the IDP camps in Vavuniya.

Change of venue for service of ‘Praise and Worship’

The venue for the service of 'Praise and Worship' which is conducted every 2nd Sunday of the month at the Cathedral of Christ the Living Saviour under the umbrella of the ministry of 'Peace for All' has been changed for this month only. It will be held at 10.30 a.m. at St. Luke's Church (opposite Aquinas), Maradana Road, Borella on Sunday, July 12. The Speaker and Minister will be Dr. Vijaya Corea.

Was Aradhana Pinkama

The Was Aradhana Pinkama will be held at the Gangaramaya Temple on July 6 at 7 p.m. Participants are requested to bring two yards of white cloth for the 'Wesi Saluwa' and a tray of betel each to invite the Maha Sangha of the Gangaramaya to observe 'Was'.

Colombo Medical College Class of 1950 meeting

The 10th annual meeting of the Colombo Medical College Class of 1950 takes place at the Global Towers Hotel, Wellawatte, next Sunday, July 12 at 9 a.m

Golden jubilee of the Sri Lanka Army Pioneer Corps

A religious programme to celebrate the golden jubilee of the Sri Lanka Army Pioneer Corps will be held today, at 5.30 p.m. at the Sri Dalada Maligawa, Kandy.

Established in 1949, under the Army Act No. 17 of 1949, the programme is organized by the retired army personnel of the Pioneer Corps. This battalion has an impressive history in assisting not only the army but also the other security forces.

Being one of the oldest battalions, it has the responsibility of protecting government property and other assets including the residences of VVIPs such as those of the Defence Secretary and Cabinet ministers and also the Sathosa stores.

Seminar on Ekamath Eka Rateka

An open seminar on the film 'Ekamath Eka Rateka' directed by Sanath Gunathilak will be held on July 7 from 3-6 p.m. at the Public Library auditorium. Organized by the Swarna Sanka Foundation, the speakers will be Gamini Weragama, Sepala Amarasinghe and Ajith Galappaththi.

Lions Club annual health and eye camp

The Lions Club of Moratuwa will hold its annual health and eye camp on July 6 (poya day) at St. Joseph's Church premises from 9 a.m.

Both western and ayurvedic doctors will be present to treat diabetes, hypertension and such diseases while 300 pairs of spectacles will be given away free to the needy after vision tests. An oral health clinic will also be conducted by a dental surgeon.

Milk and kola kenda will be distributed free to all. The chief guests will be Past Governor Lion Abeya Silva and past Council Chairman Lion Marcella Silva and the guests of honour Fr. Victor Silva, Parish Priest of St. Joseph's Church, Uyana and Lion Sunil Dharmaratna, Vice Dist. Governor and Lions Ranjith and Ruchira Wijesuriya.

The Old Boys' Association of St. Sylvester's College Kandy (Colombo Branch) has organized 'Vester's Eve 09', an evening of joy and fellowship on July 10 from 7 p.m. onwards at the Lions Secretariat,120/20 Vidya Mawatha, Colombo 7.
