Golden Key depositors meet Lalith in prison

Two members of the Golden Key Depositors Association visited jailed Ceylinco Chief Lalith Kotelawala on Friday after special permission was given by the Commissioner General of Prisons.

President of the association Anusha Emmert and treasurer Dushyanathi Hapugoda were allowed to visit Welikada Prison Hospital to see Kotelawala to discuss their grievances. Ms. Anusha Emmert told the Sunday times FT that Kotelawala has told them that he can make arrangements to repay deposits of most affected depositors numbering around 1,200 whose deposits are amounting to a total of around Rs.6 billion within six months if he is granted bail.

She said that they have no objection to bail if he is willing to give a firm assurance that he will honour his obligations. He also told them that he has no money in foreign banks and not a single lawyer had visited him during the past few weeks. Members of the association on Wednesday met the 3-member official committee appointed by the Supreme Court to look into the assets of GK and to prepare a payment plan. They submitted a list of disposable assets of GK and its directors and the committee agreed to look into this matter.

The GK FR case will come up for hearing on July 13.
