White van appears again

A group of persons who are said to have followed Nava Sihala Urumaya leader Sarath Manamendra on Friday at Maligawatte in a white van had allegedly warned him to quit active politics and stop criticising the Government.

“If you fail to follow our orders you will have to face the same fate as Lasantha Wickramatunga,” he was allegedly told.

According to Mr. Manamendra on Friday evening he had visited his party treasurer’s residence at Maligawatte and while he was leaving the house a group of persons had arrived in a white Dolphin van and blocked his vehicle Four persons had alighted from the vehicle and allegedly threatened him and warned him not to follow the joint opposition front and criticise the Government, otherwise he would have to face the consequences.

Mr. Manamendra told the Sunday Times that he had told the persons that he would not keep silent when injustice was done.

He had lodged a complaint about the incident with the Maligawatte Police.
