One sided matches the order of the day

The Junior National Tennis tournament got under way at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association Courts (SLTA) yesterday.

One sided matches were the order of the day in the first round of the main draw in the boys under 16 singles category. Danushka Abeywardana beat Joshua Moraes 6-1, 6-3 while Madusha Wijesuriya knocked out Aviska De silva 6-1, 6-1.

Shamal Dissanayake, Aaron Assuaw, Thaquib Nazar, Aritha Weerasinghe, Chintha Shaveen, Stephan Martin, hot favourite Vimukthi De Alwis, M. A. Shakir, Inzam Irfan, Rakitha Dolaphilla, Thurunaa Eswarage and Naveen Gunawardana all had an easy passage in to the second round. Eroo Samarasinghe though had to display his fighting spirit to progress. His opponent Venuka Hullangamuwa won the first set 7-5. But Samarasinghe fought back to take the next two sets 6-1, 6-2 to win the match and advance into the next round. Today will see the boys in the under 12 singles category attempt to make it into the second round.

This tournament goes on until August 29.
