Bail for LTTE spokesman

Daya Master, the former mouthpiece of the now defunct LTTE and the group’s translator George Master were released on bail after the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) informed courts that there was no evidence to suggest that the suspects had propagated the separatist cause.

The two men who were held in custody under the Terrorism Prevention Act were released on cash bail of Rs. 2.5 million by Colombo’s Chief Magistrate Nishantha Hapuarchchi. The court restrained the two from leaving the country and ordered them to appear before the CID on the last Sunday of every month. Police Inspector Aruna Jayasinghe informed court that the suspects will be dealt with under the general law and that he did not object to bail.
