A flower identified locally as ‘Jeyabara’ which is said to be more suitable to the cool climes of Nuwara Eliya is now said to be growing even in areas in the Puttalam district, according to a report from that district.
Its growth is so profuse and successful in this area, that some growers are said to be exporting it and earning foreign exchange. Up to now this variety of flowers is known to be exclusively grown in hilly areas which have a cool and wet climate throughout the year. But presently the plant is being grown even in places like Dankotuwa, Wennappuwa, Madampe and Chilaw areas.
