Political tussle leads to seminar cancellation

A political tussle in the Central Province has prompted Minister Keheliya Rambukwella to complain to President Mahinda Rajapaksa about an incident where the minister was invited for a meeting which was cancelled at the last moment.

Mr Rambukwella the newly appointed SLFP organizer for Kundasale was invited as the chief guest at the seminar which was to be held on Friday at the Kundasale Divisional Secretariat office in Menikhinna, where 22 Additional District Secretaries were also due to take part.

However it was reported that due to the intervention of Minister Sarath Amunugama the seminar had been cancelled and Minister Rambukwella informed not to come. The Additional District Secretaries had also been turned back.

Minister Rambukwella later attended another meeting at the Kundasale Divisional Secretariat office where he reportedly told the gathering “I am sorry about what happened due to the unwise act of a politician and I regret that State property and the valuable time of Government employees were wasted as a result.”
