Freedom of the mind could be enjoyed in many dimensions. Some search for physical freedom, e.g. a person trapped by a job in a factory will feel free on being free from the job. In certain cultures, women have restrictions on dress, travel and expressing ideas. Such women would feel free by doing what they are deprived of. A person who enjoys physical freedom is not disturbed by figure, beauty, travel and prestige. He will not be stressed by bonds in day to day life. He will be free - totally free to do what he wishes deep within.
Different aspects
Millions today search for freedom of the mind. What is the advantage of freedom of the mind? How will such a mind help you to be successful? If your mind is free, answers to these questions will be spontaneous. Such questions simply will not arise and clarity about mind and freedom will exist. A sense of peacefulness will then be ever present in life.
Few people in general have such clarity. This is not because it is difficult to awaken. It is more often than not because we are unaware of such a freedom and also because we do not seek it. A person who experiences a glimpse of freedom of the mind, seeks it and often awakens freedom of the mind.
Many people seek
Many people today seek freedom of the mind. They often have difficulty in thinking freely due to pressure from parents and society. Doubt arises when a new thought comes in. "Is thinking like this proper?" the mind questions. Countless concepts query most feelings that arise. Mind barely has air to breathe and seems to be suffocating. Almost every thought, emotion and feeling is scrutinized by a rule one has formed and the mind appears to be under constant pressure. Freedom from such questioning awakens a special mind that is totally free, independent, self determining and autonomous.
Society imposes
Society imposes many rules and bonds. Often these are not noticed but are accepted as natural. Based on how we are raised from childhood we arrive at many conclusions about culture and society. These conclusions unknowingly rule us. Once the seed of freedom is sowed it grows and freedom of the mind unknowingly becomes part of life.
Spiritual freedom
Authentic spiritual freedom is often restricted by organized religion. Feeling "I'm a Christian, I'm a Muslim, I'm a Hindu, I'm a Buddhist" and I'm a believer of this or that organized religion limits the mind to exacting knowledge, beliefs and rituals. There is nothing good and bad in doing so. It simply limits the mind. It imposes a restriction on the mind. Once this is realized and the mind is released from such restriction, unrestricted religiousness and spiritual freedom awakens.
Being you
Total freedom is simply being your authentic self and is merely not freedom from something. Feeling "I'm imprisoned by this person or situation and freedom from it will make me free" is what is often felt. Such a person will need to be a captive to experience freedom. The moment captivity is lost he feels free. This is temporary and passes away. With it the feelings of freedom also passes away.
When freedom is not expected from the release from bondage it can occur in the absence of a cause. Freedom from something is attached to that something. Authentic freedom of the mind is a freedom for doing what you love deep within. It is uncontrolled, unattached, unrestrained and limitless. It is independent. There are no conditions to fulfill and it is a state of mind that allows one to think and do what one wishes, freely.
Boundless blessings!
