The postman

The postman is a man who delivers letters from house to house. He uses a bicycle for his job. The bicycle is a necessity for him according to his job. He also carries an orange coloured canvas sack to carry his mail.
He goes to the post office where he works by 8 a.m. There all the letters are sorted out and each postman collects his quota. By 8.30 a.m., he leaves the post office on his bicycle. He is at my door step by 9 a.m. As there is a post box fixed on my gate he drops my letters there.

Deepavali is celebrated among the Hindus all around the world. Deepavali is also known as the Festival of Lights.
This day is celebrated to
mark the death of the evil Naragaswaran. It is believed that evil Naragaswaran was troubling the people a lot, so the people went and reported their problem to Lord Krishna. Lord Krishna decided to kill the evil Naragaswaran.
When Naragaswaran was about to die, he realized all the bad activities he had done towards the people and told them to celebrate his death every year. That is why Hindus celebrate this day.
On this day, Hindus take an oil bath, wear new clothes, go to the kovil and share sweets among their friends and relatives. They greet each other too. Lots of alms are given to the poor. To end this wonderful and happy day, we light fireworks and light oil lamps and decorate our houses. We can give up all bad habits and be good!
World Food Day

FAO has declared October 16 as the World Food Day. No one can survive without food. All humans, animals, birds and insects live on food. If someone asks “what is the most important thing in the world?” my answer is food. That is why the UNO has declared a special day for food.
According to the surveys and facts released by the UNO there are thousands of people,
especially children not getting
sufficient food.
They are
undergoing malnutrition. In some African countries, people are dying of hunger, especially in Ethiopia and Sudan.
The Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) has taken
strong steps to encourage
the world population to grow more food. We can be proud of our
country Sri Lanka because no one in our country is dying of hunger.
The aim of World Food Day is to educate, promote and to encourage people to grow more food. In our country the government has started a new programme called 'Api Wavamu, Rata Nagamu', to grow more and more food.
