Havies gear for action after AGM on Dec 14

All is not lost for the Havelocks. Plans are afoot to rejuvenate the famous rugby club after its poor showing this year. All plans will be put into action after its Annual General Meeting on December 14.

Working hard on these lines are some former Havelocks stalwarts such as Lal Silva, Gamini Fernando, Ananda Sarnapala, Y.C. Chang and some leading national rugby players such as Rajiv Perera, Shafi Hasan, Kavinda Jayasekera, Chaturanga Amarasekera, Wasim Thajudeen, Shaqui Badurdeen, Dilan Soyza and Dhanushka Sandaruwan.

Thusitha Peiris, the former DS Senanayake coach who has been having a lot of success as trainer and who has been the regular coach for the Park Club in 2007 and 2008 is expected to coach the side in 2010 with help coming from various quarters.

It is widely anticipated that Tyrone Coonghe, a leading businessman and rugby stalwart is expected to be at the helm of affairs after the AGM and even Kandy SC’s power behind the scenes Malik Samarawickreme is expected to lend a supporting hand to the club, which he has been doing from time to time.
