Parliament to debate emergency on Tuesday

Parliament will meet on Tuesday to debate the extension of the state of emergency by another month, but sittings this week are likely to be confined to a single day.

Also on Tuesday, the Government will seek parliamentary approval for two supplementary estimates, Rs. 4.75 billion for the Ministry of Transport and Rs. 50 million for the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Agrarian Services.

It’s the first parliamentary sitting after President Mahinda Rajapaksa declared an early presidential poll.
