33rd SIGNIS Salutation saluting the national cinematic and tele-creations for the year 2006 and 2007 will be held at the John de Silva auditorium on December 16, Wednesday at 6 pm.
This year’s chief guest is internationally acclaimed filmmaker, Dr. Dharmasena Pathiraja and he is being described as the renowned fore-runner of creative cinema in Sri Lanka.
“We have selected Dr. Pathiraja as our chief guest this year to felicitate him for his contribution to the cinema,” said Rev. Fr. Sriyananda Fernando, Director SIGNIS Sri Lanka.
In addition to awards for cinema and television talents, special awards SIGNIS International Homage will be presented to veteran cinema personalities and also the Cyril B. Perera Memorial Award for the promotion of cinematic literature.
Felicitating the talents in the cinema and the small screen, the SIGNIS Salutation was organized by SIGNIS (World Catholic Association for Communication) Sri Lanka affiliated to the Catholic National Commission for Social Communication. It is a non-profit organization with representation from over 140 countries.
SIGNIS is a Roman Catholic lay ecclesial movement for professionals in the communication media, including radio, television, cinema, video, media education, Internet and new technology and was formed in November 2001 by the merger of the International Catholic Organization for Cinema and Audiovisual (OCIC) and the International Catholic Association for Radio and Television (Unda). |
