Exhibition by young zoologists

'Kin Wild 2009', an exhibition on wildlife paintings and sketches by members of the Young Zoologists' Association will be held at the British Council Auditorium on December 17,18 and 19.

The exhibition also aims to promote wildlife art among the younger generation. This is the 16th such exhibition and the only wildlife art exhibition in Sri Lanka that has been held continuously for over a decade.

Christian unity service today

With the Catholic Church having taken an initiative to bring about unity among all Christian churches, the Community of the Holy Trinity will hold a Christian Unity service today, Sunday, December 13 from 4 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. at the Community Centre, No. 19, De Alwis Place, Dehiwela. Pastors from various churches will address the service which will be followed by fellowship and refreshments. All are welcome.

Public lecture on "The Battle of Nandikadal - Strategy and Tactics"

The Royal Asiatic Society will host a lecture by Major-General Shavendra Silva on "The Battle of Nandikadal - Strategy and Tactics" at 5 p.m. on Thursday, December 17 at the Mahaweli Centre at 96, Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha, Colombo 7. Major-General Shavendra Silva led the final assault on the LTTE at Nandikadal and is currently Director Operations of the Sri Lanka Army. All are welcome.

A heart patient appeals

Kariyawasa Haputhantrige Malini, 66, is a heart patient who needs immediate surgery as recommended by her doctor Aruna Kapuge of Sri Jayewardenepure Hospital.

This elderly lady from Imbulgoda seeks assistance for the operation which will cost Rs. 500,000 and is appealing for donations to be sent to bank account no. 273-2-001-4-0005183 at the Kadawatha branch of the People's Bank. She can be contacted on 0771-975534.

BASL Law Journal launch

The Bar Association Law Journal 2009 Vol XV will be launched on Saturday, December 19, at 10 a.m. at the BASL auditorium. The first copy will be handed over to Chief Justice Asoka de Silva.

This issue is dedicated to the late Deshamanya H.L. de Silva, PC, former President of the BASL.
The pre-publication price is Rs. 1000.

Parenting course

Caroline Freud Penney, the great-grand daughter of Sigmund Freud -the Austrian neurologist who founded the psychoanalytic school of psychology will be here for in January to conduct workshops on Fundamentals of Child Psychology. All proceeds will go to the Healing Hands organization, Matara, one of her favourite projects in the south.

Caroline Freud Penney works as family therapist in a specialist unit for traumatized children in Surrey UK, and is the co-ordinator and trainer on the Empowering Communities Project for the Centre for Parent and Child support, Guys Hospital, London. She has worked in the field of parenting education for over 20 years.

She will be conducting two, two-day programmes on "Fundamentals of Child Psychology" in Colombo on January 4 and 5 and in Kandy on January 8 and 9 for parents, teachers and caregivers.
