Central Province Swim meet on Jan 23

A swimming extravaganza is in store on January 23, 2010 at the Swimming Complex at the Peradeniya University when the annual swim meet of the Central Province organized by the Central Province Aquatic Sports Association (CEPASA) takes place.

This meet is the biggest aquatic sporting event to be held in the Central Province. If the Bradby Shield is for rugby then for swimming it is the Central Province swimming meet where over 700 swimmers are expected to vie for honours in the schools and open events.

This swim meet will cover districts of Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Matale. Defending champions Trinity College (boys) and Mahamaya (girls), Gateway International, Girls High School, Hillwood,Colombo International School, Kingswood, Dharmaraja, St. Sylvester’s, Jinaraja Gmpola, Zahira Gampola, Vijaya Matale, St. Thomas’ Matale, Ecole International, Vision International, St. Joseph’s Girls College Gampola and Peradeniya University will participate.

Some of the top swimmers are expected to be in the plunge.

Ahamed Muthasim Adnan, a Maldivian Attorney-At-Law has made an initial contribution towards this meet. With this as the nucleus the local organizers are hopeful local sponsors will also rally around as in the past to make the meet a success.

Entry forms could be had from the Vice President of CESPA Janaka de Silva, together with swimming coaches U.G. Sugath, U.G. Premlath, N.B. Paleepana, Senaka Uduwawala at the CEPASA Office at 18 /1, Hill Street Kandy. In the past Milo and Nutella sponsored the event in a big way.
