The unsettled weather conditions experienced in several parts of the country are expected to continue for at least another 24 hours, according to the Meteorology Department.
Areas affected by heavy rains and strong winds include the North, East, Uva, North Central, Central and Western provinces.
The sluice gates of several tanks, including the Parakrama Samudra, the Kalawewa and Kandalama Wewa, were opened yesterday as waters reached spill level.
The opening of the Parakrama Samudra sluice gates has resulted in several areas going under water.
Met Department officials said the wet weather was caused by the North East monsoon. |
