It seems as if the kids just finished Summer Camp but four months have gone by and the
season arrived almost too soon. It was time to head back to the favourite
getaway at Habarana – Cinnamon Lodge, where Christmas Camp was to begin on December 18.
Children varying from ages 6 – 16 years arrived at Cinnamon Lodge with their parents on a two night camp that promised many adventures and learning.
The two teams, Red Foxes and Blue Champs
competed fiercely on Day 1 – joined together for carols on a massive 20 by 30 foot stage and camped under the stars. They woke up to find their camp site
seeming like a morning after a snow storm. The crew has strewn snow flakes around the camp site while, gifts and sweets were hanging on the tents for the kids.
The competition got serious on Day 2 with the "Amazing Race" that had kids competing in eight challenges including
making a real hotel room, cooking up submarine sandwiches, cycling,
commando crawls and Paint Ball on the Cinnamon Lodge Island.
More games like spider webs and balancing bars took them to lunch, after which it was time to
practice for the evening Fashion Show and
dancing. Three hours of training had these kids transformed into almost professional models on a cat walk while stunned parents enjoyed the evening watching their children model to the beats of a DJ.
The judges had to pick the best team on the Catwalk while a Camp Princess and Camp Prince were also selected. Santa Claus arrived with gifts for all and the evening ended with an impressive
fireworks display by the pool deck of the hotel.
On Sunday morning, the final event got underway after breakfast, which had all the kids and some
parents shooting Paint Ball guns at moving
targets. The skills shown by the children easily matched that of the
parents while the prize giving took place after the final Sri Lankan Hakka.
It was a close
competition as the Blue Champs just beat the Red Foxes by a thread – 76 to 75 points. Trophies were also presented to the Best Shooters.
Christmas Camp ended on Sunday morning with the kids cheering and promising to be back at camp next year for the August summer camp. |
