Another show of Dharmasiri Bandaranayayake’s award winning play ‘Eka Adhipathi’ will go on the boards at 3 pm and 7 pm on January 21 at the Elphinstone Theatre, Colombo.
Winner of 8 awards at the 1976 State Drama Festival including Best Original Play of the Year and Best Actor awards, the play based on the people’s rebellion against discrimination and dereliction by a corrupt fascist regime amassed a mammoth 1400+ performances from 1976 to 1993.
The critically acclaimed political satire is played by Bandaranayake himself in the lead role together with Rajiv Ponweera, Swethekei Munasinghe, Dayadeva Edirisinghe, Lal Peiris, Leonard Cooray, Upul Nishantha, Sampath Tennakoon, Chamila Peiris, Gamini Wijesinghe, Chulla Jayawardhana and many others.
The original music score designed by maestro Premasiri Khemadasa is presently handled by Deshaka Sampath while Ranga Bandaranayake is the assistant director and Vasantha Vittachchi handles the makeup.
