Just one word is sufficient to describe the bowling of the late Tita Nathanielsz awesome. What made him be known as the Human Catapult was the tremendous pace he generated whilst taking just three steps on his way to the delivery point.
That he installed fear in the batsmen who faced him is now age old history. He first became a household word for his club Colts C.C and later on for All Ceylon (as it was then known) without the luxury of having representing his school side.
Like his Cricket, he gave his 100% to the administration of Colts C.C. where he was president for a number of years before becoming its patron.
In appreciation of his services to the club, the institution named a lounge at the Colts C.C. pavilion after him and one has to see this exclusive lounge to know the high esteem which the club held him in.
If the Colts C.C. treated him as a land mark then the Royal Colombo Golf Club treated as an icon, where too he went on to serve as the president and and also displayed his journalistic talents when he wrote an illustrious book on its 100th anniversary.
This truly is a brilliant account of the history of Golf in Sri Lanka.
Men may come and Men may go but suffice to say that the likes of Tita Nathanielsz will long be remembered whenever Cricket and Golf are discussed. His 1st death anniversary fell a few days ago and we wish him God’s peace and May the turf lie gently over him.
