Funday Times - A Poem for the week

An epic battle
By Aranya Dewanarayana (14 years), St. Joseph's Convent, Kegalle

They marched on and on,
For four days and three nights,
Along the endless, dusty roads,
The king and his heroic knights!

Fathers were torn apart from children,
Husbands departed from their wives,
Sons had to leave their mothers;
Everyone was risking their lives!

Now there's no turning back,
'Cos finally they'd arrived,
To their forbidding destination,
The battlefield bloodcurdling and wide!

The enemies charged ferociously,
And an epic battle begun!
Swords clashed raucously together,
Glistening in the setting sun.

They fought through the night,
Fought with all their might,
And finally emerged victorious,
The king and his heroic knights!
