A mix of music, will be featured at this year’s ‘Revolution of Sound’. Presented by the Interact Club of S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia, the show will feature a host of bands at the concert, from popular local artistes such as Bathiya and Santhush to young and upcoming talent. The music is said to range from pop to rock and even feature a bit of hip hop, while dance performers are to take the stage as well.
The Mirror Magazine caught up with some of the bands and asked them to give readers a sneak preview of what is to be expected at this year’s concert.

HELTER SKELTER

All five members of HELTER SKELTER have always been fascinated by the power of music and its ability to affect the moods and mindsets of people.3

“There are no words to describe our energy other than the phrase 'HELTER SKELTER'. The band consists of musicians, who have previously played with other bands and all the experience gathered is fused into one hard rock act. “The musical discipline, organization, commitment and simple yet experienced mentalities of all members and the KISS of hard rock we leave upon the crowd makes us unique. We are inspired by all sorts of music from Hard Rock to Heavy Metal to Blues, Jazz. From Funk to even classical music,” said the band.

Absolute Masquerade

The band comprises - Sithara, Gayan , Eranda and Dilum who have played in different bands and different genres of music. “As a band, playing for REVO is like a dream come true. Our band is into Slow Rock, and we love covering oldies. This is our first concert together as 'Absolute Masquerade' and we hope all of you will enjoy our performance.”

Gravity

'Gravity’ is a Pop/Alternative and Acoustic R‘n’B group which offers a completely new flavour to the local industry.

“As finalists of TNL Onstage 2009, our x -factor is our diversity of genres and our willingness to be creative and experiment with our music. We cover music by artistes such as Akon, Jay Sean, Black Eyed Peas, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and also play the alternative rock tunes of Lifehouse, Alter Bridge, Bon Jovi and the Goo Goo dolls and Green Day."

The band covered an Acoustic version of Akon’s hit single ‘Beautiful’ at TNL Onstage and released it as a recording track, after which it became the most played track on TNL Radio. The song has also received close to 4000 views on Youtube and has been publicized on the ‘Beautiful’ song page in Wikipedia.

"Currently we are working on releasing another cover of a very popular R‘n’B song, which we will disclose after the concert and hopefully it’ll receive the same type of publicity as ‘Beautiful’. We are also working on releasing a few originals, which we hope to release globally.

We think 'Revolution of Sound' is a brilliant initiative, which helps promote upcoming talent by providing an opportunity for new comers to share the same stage as the more established artistes in Sri Lanka.”

Five Minutes Apart

The band kicked off somewhere around 2008 compromising of 4 members - Sheaam , Nishal, Darren and Asitha who played a line up of music ranging from Michael Buble to Spin Doctor. As time progressed the urge for something different was felt by the founding four, a genre of music much more complex and technical in its substance.

'Five Minutes Apart' who focus mainly on making their own music and performing songs by Tool, A Perfect Circle, and Breaking Benjamin, were also winners of TNL onstage 2009.

Battery

Battery is a relatively new band that creates original music of a strong local nature. Its sound is similar to the music of the 70’s, 80’s and the 90’s era. One of the most popular songs by the band is ‘Lau Eka’ which was a chart topper and is still playing on almost every chart show in Sri Lanka. “We are really looking forward to playing at this gig and it is really great to see school boys working hard on a project, to bring out the talents of the younger generation.”

These are just some of the bands that will be performing at ‘Revolution of Sound’. The show better known as ‘Revo’, promises to be an event that will appeal to all. The main sponsor for the event is AXE, cooperate sponsor NSB and media sponsors are Art TV, Real Radio, Erbenizer and print media sponsors being the Sunday Times. ‘Revo’ will be held on February 12, at 7:30pm at the Bishop’s College Auditorium. Tickets are priced at Rs. 450 and can be purchased at the entrance or by contacting the members of the S. Thomas’ College Interact Club.
