A celebration of school rugby, or as Hisham a former national mega star and founder of the Hisham Abdeen Rugby Football Academy (HARFA), coins it, a “Rugby Extravaganza”, is set to liven up the Havelock Sports Club grounds next Sunday.
The event celebrates the completion of the HARFA’s first year in existence and displays the fountain of future rugby talent being harnessed there. Though labeled as an extravaganza the event in reality is a one day tournament between leading schools such as St. Peter’s, Isipathana, Zahira, Mahanama as well as HARFA.
Competition will take place in the Under 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20 and Over 20 age groups. Teams in the Under 12 and 14 age groups will have 10 players a side. The Under 16 age group will be 12 a side. Action from the Under 18s up to the Over 20s will be seven a side.
The day will also feature a golden oldies team made up of past ntional players who will take on the 1984 ‘Bowl’ trophy winning team. Certificates of participation and trophies for the runners up, winners, best player in each age group and Fazal Burah trophy for the best player of the tournament will be distributed at the event. There will also be a special ‘Dr. Hadjie and Mr. Abdeen himself. |
