When someone proposes, there will be someone to oppose. This has been the sad state of affairs in Sri Lanka. This is due to poor planning, attitude and corruption.
I am neither an expert in planning nor an expert economist and I prefer to refrain from casting remarks about the projects and plans put forward by the governments of Sri Lanka.
To the best of my knowledge, there was a proposal, some 35 to 40 years ago, to lay double railway lines between Kankesanthurai (KKS) and Pallai.
A general survey was done on all related matters and the government was about to implement the plan, when some selfish group with a vested interest stepped in to oppose the project. Vote-hungry politicians asked the then government to postpone the plan and the government gave in, for political reasons.
About that time, the Jaffna economy was not in great need of the double rail project. But today the situation is different. A double track is essential
