The Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) held its general convocation on February 18. The ceremony stood testament to the many accolades and achievements of SLIIT students' performances in their chosen fields of study both abroad and in Sri Lanka.

"The graduation ceremony was a platform for the recognition of the best achievers in the sphere of Information Technology, Software Engineering and Computer Systems and Networking" stated Chief Academic and Executive Officer of SLIIT, Professor Lalith Gamage. Representatives from SLIIT's highly esteemed affiliates Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) UK and Curtin University of Technology, Australia were present to bear witness to the most recent batch consisting 690 students who graduated on February 18.

Pro-Vice Chancellor of the Sheffield Business School at SHU (UK), Professor Christine Janet Booth spoke of the performance of SLIIT students at the university during the course of the affiliation. Thus far, 250 SLIIT students have excelled in the Honours Degree programmes. SHU (UK) is also home to the University's greatest creative talents, and students are educated to be critical thinkers and entrepreneurial leaders within an evolving industry that calls for a commitment to lifelong learning. "Most students go on to secure successful professions and fulfil promising futures". Professor Andris Stelbovics, Pro Vice Chancellor of the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Curtin University and Professor Graham Button, Pro Vice Chancellor, Faculty of Arts, SHU (UK) were also present to confer awards to the graduates.

Professor S. Karunaratne, Chairman of SLIIT said; "we are extremely pleased about our students' achievements, and take pride in their ability to excel on a competitive global platform, both in the classroom and within the work environment. We wish them all the very best in their future endeavours".
Special mention must be made of R.M.K. Bathiya Lakmal Priyadarshana, who received three impressive gold medals for his achievements; the Professor S. Karunatne Gold Medal for the Best Performance at the Special Honours Degree Examination of Bachelor of Science in IT, Best Achievers Gold Medal for Best overall performance in IT (donated by IFS) and the Lanka Bell Gold Medal for the Best Performance at the Special Honours Degree Examination of Bachelor of Science in IT in the fields of Computer Systems and Networking.
Other awards presented at the convocation included the Professor Lalith Gamage Gold Medal for best Curtin IT student, People's Bank Excellence Award for Best Business Management student, Virtusa Academic Excellence Award for the Best Performance for the Special Honours Degree of Bachelor of Science in IT at SLIIT, the Sheffield Business School Cash Prize for the most outstanding student, People's Bank Excellence Award For Most Outstanding student for the BBA (Hons.) in Business Management of Sheffield Hallam University (UK), and the Epic Excellence Award (awarded by the Epic Lanka Group) for Best overall Performance at the Bachelor of Science Degree Examination in IT at SLIIT. Five trophies and cash prizes were also awarded by MphasiS, the 4th largest BPO Company in India, for students' achievements in the Master's degree and Undergraduate programmes.
