‘Hector in Concert’

By Susitha R. Fernando

Singer and saxophonist Hector Dias’ maiden concert will be held today, March 7 at Avenra Garden hotel, Negombo. Fulltime saxophonist and singer for the ‘Marians’ band, the concert marks Hector’s 17 years in musical scene and 12 years with the Marians of Nalin Perera.

Concert is sure to be an entertainment as a variety of Sinhala and English songs will be performed to the music of Marians, who rock the Sinhala musical scene with their unplugged shows.

Hector will render nine new songs which are to come in his latest album together with Nilupul Suwanda Ura’ with Sunil Perera of Gypsies.

With Nalin Perera he also will sing Nimal Mendis’s famous ‘Master Sir’ which was originally sung by Neville Fernando and a number of other songs with Marians singers. Hector will bring memories of Elvis Presley while singing one of his songs with a choreographic performance.

Doing away with noisy musical instruments, for Hector’s show Marians will play a number of acoustic instruments to bring out the real quality of music.

As a young boy Hector started his music career learning saxophone under master Joseph Peiries and played for his school bands, Kochchikade Maha Vidyalaya and Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa. Later he joined the National Youth Orchestra and played for nearly five years.
