Moneragala Hospital’s exposed septic tanks a health hazard

The ablution block with toilets attached to surgical ward No. 2, at the Moneragala base hospital, are dilapidated, and the septic tanks are exposed, resulting in a foul environment.

Because the concrete coverings are damaged and the septic tanks exposed, the decomposition process has halted. Instead, the tanks have become a breeding place for mosquitoes. This place is a surgical ward and most of the patents are disabled.

As patients, we are compelled to endure the mosquitoes and the pungent foul odours. We hope the responsible authorities of the Health Ministry will take prompt action to remedy this problem.

Meanwhile, we the patients of this ward have nothing but praise for the polite and efficient service of the doctors and medical staff. We are deeply grateful to them. They often toil on beyond their working hours to relieve us from our pains.
