Singha Cement, the Sri Lankan subsidiary of the Italcementi Group, has donated cement to rebuild 150 houses in Vavunia. “This year too, Singha Cement came forward to donate a significant quantity of cement, which will be used to commence the construction of the homes of 150 families in the Varikuttu Uru village, in Vavuniya,” the company said in a statement.
Last year, as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility initiatives, Singha Cement donated money and goods to internally displaced persons.
Singha Cement markets cement in bulk as well as in 50 kilo bags, and operates a land based terminal at Peliyagoda to handle bulk and bagged cement.
The parent company, the Italcementi Group, based in Italy, is the world’s fifth largest producer of cement with operations in 22 countries. The local company recently changed its name to Singha Cement, thus embracing a local identity. |
