Colombo Ride mobile game goes 3D

The first Sinhala mobile phone game, Colombo Ride came out in 2008 and has continued to be popular among Sri Lankans both here and abroad.

Gihan Fernando of games.lk says this one player game is that of a police pursuit which translates to hora police. The game continued to make history when on February 4, 2009 – Independence Day, the second version of the game, titled Colombo Ride 2.0 was launched. “This version gave the option for two players to play against each other using Bluetooth,” says Gihan Fernando of games.lk.

The third version of the game, titled Colombo Ride 3D, will be released around July this year and will be, as you may have guessed will be in 3D. In the third installement, you have the choice of choosing your vehicle be it a tuk tuk driver or a taxi cab driver with both cars and vans being available.

You have the option of playing in single mode, where as the police, you will be going after thieves.

The game interface has been improved and a few important features have been added to the interface. They include a small map for guidance about your location and where your target is. An indication of when the police will be after you and how long you have to avoid the police with a countdown will be an option as well.

As with the second version, multiplayer facility is available and a choice of vehicle can be selected in the ‘challenge’ mode. For those interested in keeping score and trying to top the tables, a highscore table will be maintained on the www.games.lk website and a third competition will also follow suite.

For those of you who have played the earlier versions will know that there is sound included in the game.

When going from one location to another, there is a voice clip in Sinhala which tells the driver where the passenger wants to be dropped off. In the third installment of the game, Palitha Perera a prominent Sinhala radio broadcaster and cricket commentator will be providing the voice towards the game.

Colombo Ride, Colombo Ride 2.0 and Colombo Ride 3D have been created by Gamos Technology Solutions (GTS) and is headed by W.G.T.Fernando, a former lecturer at the University of Moratuwa.
Lakmal Rathnasiri, Asinsala Silva, Kasun Hettiarachchi, Amali Wijayarathna and Manuja Jayamanne are also part of the team behind this game and their website.
