We are all aware that construction work on the uncompleted Chandrika Kumaratunga Mawatha in Malabe (IT Park) has long been held up, for various reasons.
This road, if completed, would connect Avissawella Low Level Road with the Malabe-Kaduwela Main Road. It would greatly help ease traffic congestion at the Parliament end of Battaramulla, as well as along High Level Road up to Low Level Road.
The Chandrika Kumaratunga Mawatha project was begun by the Urban Development Authority about eight years ago. Up to now, three-quarters of the road has been completed.
Unfortunately, parts of the road have deteriorated, and are going from bad to worse. Iron gully covers have been stolen and not replaced. The remaining distance of about two kilometres, up to the Ambatale Junction, has yet to be laid and tarred.
